Sad scenarios/quests in GW1.
Personally, I'm a sucker for sad quests/lore in Guild Wars. For example, I absolutely loved the dialogue between Gwen and her mother (Sarah) in the Underworld if you had Gwen as a hero. I hope this doesn't sound too nerdy, but when Gwen and her mother started talking I actually felt sad for both of them (which surely is a sign of a good quest) and I was actually hoping for a quest that would somehow relate the two the first time this happened to me.
I haven't actively played GW in years but does anyone know of any other sad/depressing lore in the game? I already know of quests like "Messages, Messages Everywhere?" and the story of Rurik/Althea but I would really like to know of other quests/landmarks in the game.
Oh and as a side note, I really do hope GW2 has some depressing/sad lore
Edit: I've added some links for some of the lore I was talking about earlier.

my favorite quest is http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Lost_Treasure when i first did it it annoyed me because i felt rushed and he would always go ahead of me, but once we got to the treasure it became my favorite quest plus the 16 Attribute points is a nice prize

My quest doesn't involve reuniting someone with their dead mother, or making a Sophie's Choice between a father and boyfriend, but the quest that really got to me was one where some poor creature was sacrificed just so Koss could learn a lesson. I mean, it just wreaks of hubris and is sickening because of that. Poor Slort Nilbog's life, his childhood, his dreams, are rendered irrelevant because Koss feels impotent on the battlefield.
R.I.P. Slort Nilbog.

For some reason, that quest dialogue still makes me cry like a baby.
Also, the Destroy the Harpies quest. As I said on its talk page:
"Oh my god... this quest makes you kill BABIES. What the heck. They didn't mention that in the quest description! I didn't sign up for this! I just targeted one of the baby skree hatchlings, a lvl 2, and watched him try in vain to get off a single "Read the Wind" before his death. He didn't make it. That poor little bugger will never have a chance to fly or or grow up at all. I killed helpless, defenseless babies, for a trade contract or two. Then again, I also legit cried when reading the Oswalt's Epitaph dialogue, so... maybe I'm taking this too seriously? I'm going to go drown my sorrows in Juniberry Gin now.Ailina 02:34, October 14, 2010 (UTC)"

Very sad and adds a rather vengeful cliffhanger we'll be hopefully seeing the effects of in GW2.

Lets be honest, GW may have some scenes that bring a slight quiver to your lower lip, but nothing in the Aerith death in Final Fantasy VII league

Nicholas the Traveler, how he met with Yakkington is very cute. And: "Before the Searing, he was in love with Mary Malone who was killed during the devastating event. Due to her death, he didn't travel for years."
The very first dialogue with him was also nice, a reminder of the past: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Nicho...ialogue#Trivia

The Sadiest part is Rurik and Togo dying. Now why you may ask? Lets Be realistic. Rurik is a beast and will literally carry you to Kryta. Togo actually helps you. Most Npcs we have to help or join us(do nothing) are completely and utterly useless (*cough Kormir cough*).

I'd say that Anton's story qualifies. Here's this Ascalonian that basically betrayed his people to the Charr in order to save his small village from destruction when the Charr invaded. Instead the Charr burn and pillage his village and his family.
He basically got what he deserved as a traitor, but he's now older and wiser and seeking revenge.

I'm surprised no one yet mentioned the Bleached Bones in the Crystal Desert. The most depressing to me would be:
"Why did we come out here? My daughters have grown sicker each day, and nothing I can do will save them. At night I see the gleaming eyes of creatures that wait just outside the firelight for me to fall asleep, so they can feed on my little ones. Their mother, dead these last two weeks, will curse me from her shallow grave, but I have no choice. Tonight, the soup will contain enough choke root to put the girls to sleep once and for all. When they are safe once again, I will eat of it myself, for I'll not face the morning without them."

How could I have forgotten about those bones?
"... Our rations were exhausted two days ago. We held out as long as we could, but this afternoon we voted to amputate Cerzak's injured leg and distribute the meat equally among us. Even if he survives, he'll not walk again. But if we don't do this thing, as vile as it is, none of us will live to see another day."
....
Oh and I should add Saidra's story to this topic as well. I think it's also cool how I think they added her ashes to some Asuran place in the game. Courageous was Saidra I think was the item's name.

The "some Asuran place" was a swamp. They threw her ashes into the depths of a murky swamp.
Kaira says: "Saidra was a heroic member of the Shining Blade who sacrificed all to help her friends and our cause. She embodied everything our organization believes in. Ever since the Dwarves of Deldrimor delivered her ashes to us, I have searched for a fitting place to leave Saidra's remains. That place is here in Sparkfly Swamp."
If that's a tribute befitting a hero, I hope the Shining Blade never see me as a hero...
Also, the cutscene where Vekk finds out his dad died and scatters his ashes had me tearing up. Especially since that's when we also first find out that Gadd was his father. And now they'll never get a chance to reconcile...

Did you try eating burritos at the same time? It might have been indigestion instead of sorrow.

I always thought Kehanni's death was rather sad. Although we never witnessed her in combat, I know somehow that she was probably the best Mesmer that Vabbi had to offer.
(Yes, that was meant as a jab to Norgu).
